Waaris Shah - Ishq Daa Waris, is an Punjwood award-winning film made in India, released in 2006. It stars Gurdas Mann, Juhi Chawla and Divya Dutta. It is directed by the late director Manoj Punj. The film was critically acclaimed in India and overseas, although it did fail to do major business.It is a film about Syed Waris Shah (Urdu: وارث شاہ) (b. 1706 – d. 1798) a Punjabi Sufi poet, best-known for his seminal work Heer Ranjha, based on the traditional folk tale of Heer and her lover Ranjha. Heer is considered one of the quintessential works of classical Punjabi literature.
Waris Shah was one of India's entries to the 79th Academy Awards. The entry was made by India Waves TV, San Francisco, California on behalf of USA distributors of the film Golden Palm Entertainment Inc. The film competed in various categories, namely Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Costumes.
